Fountain of Neptune, Rome

Fountain of Neptune is one of the three magnificent fountains decorating Piazza Navona, one of Rome’s most famous and lively squares. Originally created in the 16th century, the fountain was later completed with its dramatic Neptune sculpture group in the 19th century.

At the centre, the Roman god Neptune, ruler of the sea, is depicted battling a sea monster. The dynamic sculptures, surrounded by water and mythological figures, give the fountain a powerful and theatrical appearance.

Together with the Fountain of the Four Rivers and Fontana del Moro, the Fountain of Neptune contributes to Piazza Navona’s distinctive Baroque character and makes the square a wonderful place to experience Rome’s art, architecture and lively atmosphere.
